Authors are asked to check that their manuscript meets the criteria below. Manuscripts that do not meet the editorial requirements may be rejected.

  • The article is an original piece of academic work.
  • The article has not been previously published and has not been submitted for publication in another journal or book.
  • The article does not infringe the copyright, legal or material interests of third parties, nor does it give rise to any conflict of interest.
  • There is no ‘ghostwriting’ or ‘guest authorship’ associated with this article.
  • The article meets the requirements set out in the Guidelines for Authors.

 

Guidelines for Authors

The journal does not charge fees for publishing articles nor does it pay for submitted manuscripts. Please refer to the Authors’ Responsibilities in the Ethical Guidelines.

 

 

FILE PREPARATION GUIDELINES for articles in Polish

  1. Article length: between 22,000 and 37,000 characters including spaces (including the abstract and bibliography). Manuscripts significantly exceeding this character limit will not be subject to the peer-review process.
  2. Text files: please submit text files with the following extensions: doc, docx or rtf. If special characters (e.g. non-Latin fonts) are used, please also attach a PDF version of the article.
  3. Text layout:
  • First name and surname,
  • Affiliation – name of institution, country,
  • Email address,
  • ORCID,
  • Article title,
  • Title in English,
  • Abstract in English (up to 1,800 characters),
  • Keywords in English (should also be included in the abstract),
  • Abstract in Polish (up to 1,800 characters),
  • Keywords in Polish (should also be included in the abstract).

4. Main text with footnotes:

  • font: 12-point Times New Roman,
  • line spacing in the main text: 1.5 lines,
  • text formatting: bold, indicated in each instance in square brackets [emphasis – X. Y.],
  • Please do not use any special formatting,
  • short quotations should be included in the main text, within the running text, in quotation marks, with the font size and style remaining unchanged,
  • to indicate a quotation within a quotation, use angle quotation marks »…«,
  • longer quotations of at least four lines should be set apart from the main text, written in 10-point font, and separated from the main text by a blank line above and below, please indent the entire quotation,
  • omissions in the quoted text are indicated by square brackets […],
  • first names and surnames mentioned in the main text should be given in full (Bolesław Prus). When referring to a person again, use only the surname (Prus),
  • numbers should be written out in words (except within quotations),
  • the spelling of quotations and titles has been modernised (unless retaining the original spelling is justified on substantive grounds),
  • foreign first names and surnames are written in their original (non-Polonised) form,
  • the article should be divided into sections/chapters.

5. Footnotes:

  • font: 10-point Times New Roman,
  • line spacing: single line.

6. References (bibliography) (arranged alphabetically; surname followed by full first name; includes all cited works).

7. Blind index (all surnames are included, including those from footnotes).

8. Rules for preparing footnotes and the bibliography:

  • in footnotes, use Latin abbreviations: ibidem, idem, eadem, op. cit., vide, et al., cf.,
  • vide (in plain text); in all other cases, use Polish abbreviations (e.g. ed., comp., trans.),
  • authors’ surnames and titles of works written in non-Latin alphabets are transliterated,
  • numerical ranges, e.g. page ranges and dates, are separated by an en dash – (not a hyphen),
  • double initials are separated by a space (A. M., not A.M.),
  • when referring again to a previously cited text, we repeat the initial and surname, op. cit., and the page number or numbers,
  • when citing more than one text by the same author, we give the initial and surname,
  • repeat the title in full or in abbreviated form (without adding ‘op. cit.’), and the page number or numbers,
  • where there are consecutive references to the same text, use the abbreviation ‘ibidem’,
  • the bibliography should be arranged alphabetically (surname followed by first name, e.g. Mickiewicz, Adam), and where we cite more than one text by the same author, we repeat their surname and first name each time.

9. Preparing illustrations for publication

Each illustration accompanying the article must be submitted as a separate file with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Acceptable formats are: eps, tif, jpg, bmp. File names should correspond to the names (numbers) of the illustrations in the text. An alternative description of up to 150 characters (including spaces) must be provided for each illustration. It is the author’s responsibility to obtain the rights to publish the illustrative material (under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 PL licence).
